What are Cookies?

Cookies are small text files which a server on the Internet saves on your local PC in a special folder. They can manage, for example, a basket or count how often you visited a website.

Facts:

  1. Cookies can be saved in only one folder and only in a text based format. Thus, cookies are not a danger for the security of your data on the hard disk.
  2. Only the website which has set the Cookie can read it.
  3. Cookies can be annoying because there are some companies who joined and now control the cookies together. Therefore, they are able to determine where you surf on the Internet.
  4. Cookies can be really annoying if you fill your personal data into a form on such a company's website. Then, they do not know only where you server but also who you are.
  5. Therefore, it is recommended that you normally de-activate cookies in your browser and activate them only when you are on the website of a company you trust. Be very careful when filling out forms with activated cookies!
